The real reason they took away the grey is the same reason they took away the mascot, took away the dixie song, and the same reason the state of Georgia removed the Confederate flag from there state flag. It has nothing to do with getting new uniforms really. Why in the world would they take away the red jersey's and gray pants? I always thought that was as good looking a uniform as there was. But these four combo's are awful in my opinion. sip

But aren't the pants in the first picture gray? The real reason they took away the grey is the same reason they took away the mascot, took away the dixie song, and the same reason the state of Georgia removed the Confederate flag from there state flag. Shhh... That doesn't make this about being politically correct. Ignore that fact. But aren't the pants in the first picture gray?
Thanks, Kevin4Bama...there has always seemed to be difficulty in people grasping what the Rebel / Black Bear change was...as you stated, they never quit being the Rebels...just switched the actual physical sideline mascot. My son goes to Ole Miss...so I was able to keep track of the voting, etc of the mascot switch. They never quit being the Rebels. They just did away with Col. Reb to be PC. Col. Reb was replaced with a black bear mascot for the sidelines, but they never became the Black Bears.
While Alabama didn't officially have an elephant as a mascot until 1979, it had been associated with us since the 1920s. I can't see the Ole Miss black bear being accepted overnight. Especially with a popular, longstanding mascot being removed. The elephant is more accepted and integrated in our program than the black bear is with them. Though I don't buy or see a lot of Ole Miss merchandise. I think I've seen one piece of their merchandise that has the Black Bear on it. With us the Elephant is used a lot, especially with t-shirts.
Wasn't there also a guy who suck onto their sideline and pretended to be a trainer? No one realized until afterwords when his twitter or blog chronicled the experience. It was actually humorous at the Ole Miss - Bama game last year. Someone showed up as the Col Reb mascot and was on the Ole Miss sideline until someone recognized it and escorted them off.
Yes, because grey is rayciss. If you get rid of the mascot, get rid of the color grey along with it...
It's pretty simple really. New uniforms means fans want to buy the new uniforms, which equals more money.I'm trying to understand why there seems to be a trend toward so many new looks in uniforms. Sure, schools get endorsement money for wearing a logo. But why would the uniform maker add the extra expense of all new designs?
The makers, underarmour and nike, maybe have marketing research that suggests the new designs make their logos be noticed (even if unconsciously) more than old designs?????
I tell ya' what, the new OleMiss uniforms make me want to run out and by some Nike stuff, right now.
