Leon Brown, OT, 6-6 / 308
Overview: Big man with a immense amount of raw athleticism and somewhat of a mean streak.
What he brings: You typically don’t spend a scholarship on a JUCO guy unless you plan on him contributing right away. This young man reminds us a LOT of James Carpenter. He’s not as overpowering as, say, an Andre Smith, but he’s great at using a defender’s momentum in his own favor. Sort of a finesse blocking technique similar to the one Barrett Jones used against UGA’s interior linemen in the 2012 SECCG. Like Carpenter, if Brown makes it to the next level, he’ll most likely be moved to guard.
Most likely destination this season: Again, we don’t see how we’d spend a scholarship on him if we didn’t think he was a plug & play guy at the RT position. We think he has a chance to be our starting RT for the next 2 seasons. We think he’ll be solid, but not (Andre Smith/DJ Fluker) dominant.
