Yellow Helmets on A-Day

Most of the special teams players play for both sides. Since it was impossible to tell which side a player was on by jersey color, one side would slip a yellow cover on their helmets to differentiate.

The first response is correct. A player might be first team defense and second team punt return. So he would be wearing a red jersey but be out there with mostly white jerseys come punt time.

Yella hats not really necessary IMO as there was no contact on punt and KO's....guess it was to show hustle.
