Well, USC had a 4.42 average last year, but it was a small class. Still, that's amazing. It was enough to make you wonder if they were signing guys based on recruiting rankings.

This year, they are 57th and a much more pedestrian 3.57 (which is good for third). Their extremely low ranking has more to do with limited scholarships than anything else, I would assume. For instance, Alabama has an average of 3.56 and is ranked #2. I think the main story is SEC dominance in recruiting. For instance, Oklahoma is currently 34th with a 3.17 star average (tied with Vandy for instance). The SEC has 5 of the top ten, and when you see Kentucky ahead of Texas, you know things have changed.

16 (or 17, depending on which site you check) signees in 2012, only 12 (or 13) signees in 2013. A lot of 4 and 5 stars among them, but even with decent walk-ons you'd have to think USC will have to be hurting bad real soon. Even worse than the last two season's record shows.

That's exactly what they were doing. Same approach that AU was taking under Chiznik and Troopah. :biggrin2:

After randy Shannon was fired at Miami he said they based there recruiting solely on recruiting sites and made their preferences based on players with bama and Florida offers. Chinking absolutely did the same at auburn, which explains why au had so many busts in those touted classes,it was the same for the u

Well, coaches can work a 40 hr week that way, letting the services do the work for them.
