Anyone that thinks Obamacare is a good thing is an idiot IMO. Just received notice from BCBS of AL that our monthly premium will be going from $417 to $867. Affordable healthcare my you-know-what. I'm so glad I didn't vote for this idiot of a president.

I'm so mad right now that I better stop typing before I get banned or type something that will send the secret service to my house. Obama's last day in office can't come soon enough.
But I bet your deductible is much less than before. (Sarcasm blue font intended)

I've heard lots of stories like this.

I check the Alabama marketplace at www.healthcare.gov about 3 times a day. Still a wait for the log in page to appear. I haven't tried waiting.

I wonder if VJ will let me live on his giant fuel guzzling, green house gas emitting giant boat? Please!

I did explore the website and found out that I can get in person help at the:

AIDS Action Coalition (AAC)

No way I'm going there and sit in a chair. Must be an Obama conspiracy to spread HIV.
Believe it or not, waiting works....got in set up my account and entered all my info, then was told they can't be sure I am who I say I am, so I get no further. Maybe I am somebody else...?

Got my Alabama BCBS packet in the mail yesterday for 2014 and my individual premium is going up 53%. And that is for the highest level Silver plan. Not the Platinum plan, nor any of the Gold plans, but the highest of the Silver plans. I am a 41 year old who has never been in the hospital, not on any medications, have not been to the doctor in 2013 (and only twice in 2012 for a physical and then the flu that I got at the SEC Champ game), have not had any tests that might raise a red flag of a serious problem, lab work is perfect, do not smoke or drink, am not obese (not even close), and my premiums shoot up that much!!!!!!

Since liberals always want to bring up the government requiring car insurance, where is my good driver discount?

I haven't gotten my new price etc from BCBS. I'm going to check out the exchange if I can ever get on. Do the same and let us know please.

You mean a plan on the exchange that my doctor will not take? The same doctor who has been my doctor for 15 years and the same doctor who saved my wife's life 12 years ago?

Also, is there not a provision in the law that states once you go on to an exchange, you cannot go back off of it? I seem to recall that point.....????

I guess I will be an idiot and stay with a private insurance company like BCBS and pay the higher monthly premium in (the idiotic) hope that the ACA eventually gets repealed (won't happen) or collapses and maybe I can keep some privacy between my family and our doctor.

I finally got through and completed an online application for insurance on the exchange. I wanted to share this with you.
The Premium Categories-adult 27 etc don't line up--my fault- but ya'll can figure it out. Premium for a child didn't seem to make it when I copied. Sorry

This seems to be close or perhaps slightly less than I am paying now. I don't qualify for a subsidy because my net income is too low. That's right folks, I pay less income tax % than Mitt Romney. My son should get a subsidy for about half his premium.

Things are still pending and I will keep you informed.

Why would your doctor not take an exchange plan? It's the same insurance companies that you have now. I can't say for certain that if you buy on the exchange you can't go back off, but I imagine you can.

WHY? REALLY?

Gee, are you really that naive, or just idealistic?

Tell you what.........go ask your doctor how he likes his Medicare reimbursements. Then report back.

My doctor accepts my BCBS plan payments now and I expect that she will accept them in the future. Why wouldn't she?

Thank you for saying naive and idealistic rather than stupid!:)

Who couldn't see this coming?

Insurances are cutting payments to providers and hardballing them to either accept the new rates or not be included in the exchange plans network of providers. But you can keep your plan and your doctor if you want.

Of course I do expect that the call will eventually come to prevent providers from opting out of the plans or as those in the old Soviet states used to say "forced labor" but i expect we will call it something like "the responsible health care providers act". After all, if the feds can force everyone to buy insurance why couldn't they force providers to accept their payments and to provide their services in return or leave the profession?

They will. And take it one step further:

"Hey, since you are unlikely to pay off all of your school loans, all you new doctors................come work for us, doing what we will tell you, and we will make your loans go away."

You watch...................

Doesn't it have to do with the negotiated provider network? As we've seen, many exchange plans have limited their provider networks in order to lower premiums -- it's basically the only mechanism that insurers can use to control premiums given all of the statutory requirements.

So my parents got the letter from BCBS saying their monthly payment will go from $298.00 to $432.00 a month if they go with the silver plan. I am 27, my brother 29, and neither of us received a packet yet. I'm sure ours will increase as well.

For all the Ramsey fans:

Thanks AJ. I seldom listen to Ramsey because I hardly ever learn anything from him. He has gained a lot of wealth by stating the obvious and using just plain old common sense (I'm proud for him because of his personal initiative). What he does is motivates people to do the right thing. EVERBODY NEEDS TO LISTEN TO THE YOUTUBE POSTED BY AJ ABOVE. Set politics aside and do the math. A few weeks ago on Page 2 I posted a chart put out by the Heritage Foundation showing the anticipated rate of increase in all the states. Almost immediately Liberals attacked the chart as being inaccurate because it was put out by the Heritage Foundation. Health Insurance Rates will go up. Do the math. I predict that the rate increases you are seeing now is only the beginning unless the Gov't can get doctors to work for $50K per year and nurses to work for $20K per year. But I guess that is what the Fed Gov't wants. Gaining power by gaining control of weak minded people is not a noble thing. Empowering Weak Minded People by education and allowing them to fly as high as they can go is a noble thing. Obamacare is a product of politics of those who exploit weak minded people. But I guess our current Fed Gov't just wants to keep their supporters happy by giving them a cell phone and fixing it where they do not pay income tax etc etc instead of allowing them to learn to think for themselves. End of rant. Carry on.
