We had 6 common opponents: LSU, MSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Texas A & M. In these games, Auburn has scored a total of 210 points. Their defense has given up 158 points. Alabama has scored 229 points. Our defense has given up 76 points. In most of our games we we ahead early and played many players. In most of Auburn's games, they had to keep the starters in due to close games. Auburn was 5-1, and we were 6-0. I like our chances!

This is what I have been going back to, as well. People often want to say that because Team A beat Team C by 10, and Team B beat Team C by 3, then Team A is 7 points better than Team B. That is reading too much into the results from games against a single common opponent. But comparing the results of games against several common opponents over the course of a season shows a definite trend. Against every single common opponent, Alabama has won by a larger margin than Auburn. That doesn't necessarily mean that Bama wins on Saturday, but like the OP, I like our chances.

It also does not take into account that we milk clock once we get a nice lead and at least two of those wins were blowouts by the 2nd quarter.

The number differential is staggering - assuming we're not behind on turnovers (I think we'd have to be at least -3) Bama walks away in this one. Better players, better coaching, better execution.

I agree - the only way that Auburn wins is with the help of many turnovers by Alabama.

Back to basics...the OP makes very good points. I was talking to a barner yesterday and was trying to make the same argument, but he wasn't having it.

But I agree with the others upstream, I really like our chances Saturday. Getting to crush the barners hopes on the way to our first three peat is like a dream come true.

I just don't put much stock in common opponents. Maybe I should. Auburn played LSU in what late September? How would that game go now? Auburn played State back in early September. Would state keep it that close now? Ole miss absolutely never really showed up at auburn. How would they play them now?

Lets face it auburn has appeared to get much better over the season. They're at home and they believe they just can't lose. I wish they felt the pressure and maybe they do. They will start out fast and with trick plays. Will we start slow? Play tight? Allow the crowd and pressure to disrupt us? Just so many ways to look at this game and many of them make me very nervous.

The 49-42 score in the A&M game is alittle misleading. We played them the 2nd game of the year when our young defense was still trying to find itself. auburn and LSU played them late and the results speak for themselves. If we played A&M today I think the margin would have been alot greater.

Since Coach Saban's arrival, haven't we played under pressure on the road very well?

Any Texas A&M opponent would benefit from Manziel being a bit gimpy.

That's score is not as close as the game actually was...

You guys killed aTm. Had Yeldon not fumbled inside the 5 yard line in the 4th, Alabama would have won by 35. As it was, you never gave aTm the ball back with less than a 14 point lead. They never had a chance to take the lead on Alabama. You crushed them, but a few spectacular plays by aTm took the shine off of the win for many.
