In a yankee minute! Betting is business, rooting for your team is fun. Don't ever confuse the two or gets damn expensive as the Aubie just experienced. Hedge bets in situations like his are nothing more than an insurance policy.

Absolutely! Why take the chance when you have a guaranteed winner?

It's the main reason I stay away from Bama games. Gotta make sure you keep your heart out of it. Could not have given up that much cash opportunity even for my Tide.

It depends on how much money you have in your checking account. I know of someone who has $100M in a checking account earning 55 basis points so $50k is not much so why not have fun with house money and let it ride. To me however, I would hedge at my income level. It is all relative.

Stupid decision on his part, but so much of fanhood is sheer irrational thought and behavior anyway such that it's not really surprising. And a lot of other people would have done just what he did, more than would otherwise be willing to admit.

A guy from our part of the state won $10,000 on a $100 bet that Auburn would win the SEC championship. When I heard someone had bet on Auburn winning the NC I thought it probably was the same individual.

Easy to say now. Basically risked $10k to win $50k. Looks like it was a pretty good bet that just came up short.

10k is a ton of money to some. Nothing for others. Only bet what you can afford to lose.

I would imagine he might have hedged some at halftime. The article stated he flew to Vegas to watch it at a sportsbook. Hedging at -400 is step, but hedging your bet on FSU +9 second half would have been a no brainer. I imagine he put some down to cover his trip cost.
