Two versions:

Squeeze my lemon 'til the juice runs down my leg
Squeeze it so hard, I'll fall right out of bed
Squeeze my lemon, 'til the juice runs down my leg

Travelling Riverside Blues - Robert Johnson (popularized by Led Zeppelin)

Squeeze me, babe, 'till the juice runs down my leg
Do, squeeze, squeeze me, baby, until the juice runs down my leg
The wayyou squeeze my lemon-a
I'm gonna fall right outta bed, 'ed, 'ed, bed, yeah

The Lemon Song - Page, Plant, Jones, Bonham, Burnett

Same with "Running On Empty":

Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields
In sixty-five I was seventeen and running up one-o-one
I don't know where I'm running now, I'm just running on

Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive
Trying not to confuse it with what you do to survive
In sixty-nine I was twenty-one and I called the road my own
I don't know when that road turned onto the road I'm on

When are you gonna come down
When are you going to land
I should have stayed on the farm
I should have listened to my old man

You know you can't hold me forever
I didn't sign up with you
I'm not a present for your friends to open
This boy's too young to be singing the blues

So goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can't plant me in your penthouse
I'm going back to my plough

Back to the howling old owl in the woods
Hunting the horny back toad
Oh I've finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road

I think one of the best pictures ever painted by a songwriter was Kris Krisstoferson's "Sunday Morning Coming Down".
Amen to that. I love Kristofferson, I think he was as good if not better than any of the Highwaymen but didn't quite get the same due.

Tough to pick just one of his songs, I really enjoy "Loving Her Was Easier," "The Pilgrim," "Help Me Make it Through the Night," but my favorite of all is probably "Here Comes That Rainbow Again."

"The scene was a small roadside cafe,
The waitress was sweeping the floor.
Two truck drivers drinking their coffee.
And two Okie kids by the door.
"How much are them candies?" they asked her.
"How much have you got?" she replied.
"We've only a penny between us."
"Them's two for a penny," she lied.

And the daylight grew heavy with thunder,
With the smell of the rain on the wind.
Ain't it just like a human.
Here comes that rainbow again.

One truck driver called to the waitress,
After the kids went outside.
"Them candies ain't two for a penny."
"So what's it to you?" she replied.
In silence they finished their coffee,
And got up and nodded goodbye.
She called: "Hey, you left too much money!"
"So what's it to you?" they replied.

And the daylight was heavy with thunder,
With the smell of the rain on the wind.
Ain't it just like a human.
Here comes that rainbow again."

Simple but meaningful, and never gets old.

More Elton:

And someone saved my life tonight sugar bear
You almost had your hooks in me didn't you dear
You nearly had me roped and tied
Altar-bound, hypnotized
Sweet freedom whispered in my ear
You're a butterfly
And butterflies are free to fly
Fly away, high away, bye bye

I never realized the passing hours of evening showers
A slip noose hanging in my darkest dreams
I'm strangled by your haunted social scene
Just a pawn out-played by a dominating queen
It's four o'clock in the morning
Damn it listen to me good
I'm sleeping with myself tonight
Saved in time, thank God my music's still alive

I've always related to songs by Jimmy Webb:

Galveston, oh Galveston, I still hear your sea winds blowin'
I still see her dark eyes glowin'
She was 21 when I left Galveston

Galveston, oh Galveston, I still hear your sea waves crashing
While I watch the cannons flashing
I clean my gun and dream of Galveston

I still see her standing by the water
Standing there lookin' out to sea
And is she waiting there for me?
On the beach where we used to run

Galveston, oh Galveston, I am so afraid of dying
Before I dry the tears she's crying
Before I watch your sea birds flying in the sun
At Galveston, at Galveston

E.L.P: "From the Beginning" -

There might have been things I missed, but don't be unkind
It don't mean I'm blind
Perhaps there's a thing or two I think of lying in bed
I shouldn't have said

But, there it is

You see, it's all clear
You were meant to be here from the beginning

Maybe I might have changed and not been so cruel
Not been such a fool
Whatever was done is done - I just can't recall
It doesn't matter at all

You see, it's all clear
You were meant to be here from the beginning

"My Wife Thinks You're Dead"

It's good to see you baby it's been a long long while
We're both a whole lot older and seen a lot of miles
But things are different now since the good ol days
And you've been in some trouble
Since we went our separate ways
We'll have to say hello maybe some other time instead
Cause you're wanted by the police
And my wife thinks you're dead.

Somebody spread the rumor that you had lost your life
Least that's the way I heard it and what I told my wife
Now here you're showing up again and talk is getting round
And I can see that one of us will have to leave this town
If you think that I want trouble
Then you're crazy in your head
Cause you're wanted by the police
And my wife thinks you're dead.

You never called or wrote me just up and disappeared
Nobody knew what happened
Where you been for all these years
Now trouble's what youre lookin like
Cause trouble's where you been
And I can see the kind of trouble you could get me in
You better pay attention to every word I said
Cause you're wanted by the police
And my wife thinks you're dead.

So goodbye to you baby I'm glad we got to talk
But I'm faithful to my wife and I don't ever break the law
I don't know where you're headed for
But I know where you been
Were reminisced now let's just go our separate ways again
Go find another ex-sweetheart to hang around instead
Because you're wanted by the police
And my wife thinks youre dead.

From the The Final Cut by Pink Floyd

Now she stands upon Southhampton Dock,
With her handkerchief and her summer frock
Clings to her wet body in the rain

In quiet desperation, knuckles white upon the slippery reins,
She bravely waves the boys goodbye again

That album is bursting with great lyrics. Pure genius

I guess my answer would probably be the lyrics to American Pie by Don McLean. Everyone has their own interpretation, but if you pay enough attention to what was going on at the time you can get it.
Say it ain't so!!! I absolutely hate that song. Mainly because so many people 'like' it; only because they're supposed to, and don't even know what it's about. (Not saying that's you!)

When I was in school I ran with a kid down the street

But I watched him burn himself with bourbon and speed

.......

I can still hear the soft Southern wind in the live oak trees

And those Williams boys, they still mean a lot to me; Hank and Tennessee

I guess we're all gonna be what we're gonna be

But what do you do, with good ol boys like me?

"I've grown up a little, but not very much
I'm a little bit wiser, but still not in touch.
No I'm not as wild now as I used to be,
But there's still that crazy, side of me".

Why Me Lord? - Kris Kristofferson

why me lord?
what have i ever done,
to deserve even one,
of the pleasure i've known,
tell me lord,
what did i ever do,
that was worth lovin' you,
for the kindness you've shown,

lord help me Jesus,
i've wasted it so help me Jesus,
i know what i am,
but now that i know,
that i needed you so help me Jesus,
my souls in your hand,

try me lord,
if you think there's a way,
i can try to repay,
all i've takin' from you,
maybe lord,
i can show someone else,
what i've been through myself,
on my way back to you,

Devil In The Bottle - TG Shepard

I come home late at night with my boots in my hands.

Stumble in the back door being quiet as I can.

And I know she's there in bed, cold and all alone.

and she's crying because I'm breaking up our home.

And she knows the hell I'm going through in this world inside my head.

There's a devil in the bottle lord and he wants to see me dead.

I fall into her arms and she helps me with my clothes.

Guess she stays on with me cause she really knows,

that I'm tryin' Lord, to find my freedom by excaping to the only freedom I've ever known.

And she knows the hell I'm going through in this world inside my head.

There's a devil in the bottle lord and he won't rest until I'm dead.

There's a devil living in the bottle Lord and he won't rest 'til I'm dead

and its killing her too, watching me die this way

Dear Riz,
Forgive me for waiting until now...

"I'm steppin' tall, y'all, and just like Humpty Dumpty
You're gonna fall when the stereos pump me
I like to rhyme, I like my beats funky
I'm spunky, I like my oatmeal lumpy
I'm sick wit dis, straight gangsta mack
But sometimes I get ridiculous
I'll eat up all your crackers and your licorice
Hey yo fat girl, come here are ya ticklish?
Yeah, I called ya fat; look at me, I'm skinny"

I like the lyrics, but I REALLY like Alison Krauss's performance of the song (look it up and listen to it)

"A Living Prayer"

In this world I walk alone with no place to call my home
But there's one who holds my hand
The rugged road through barren lands
The way is dark, the road is steep
But He's become my eyes to see
The strength to climb, my griefs to bear
The Savior lives inside me there

In your love I find release
A haven from my unbelief
Take my life and let me be
A living prayer my God to thee

In these trials of life I find
Another voice inside my mind
He comforts me and bids me live
Inside the love the Father gives

In your love I find release
A haven from my unbelief
Take my life and let me be
A living prayer my God to thee
take my life and let me be
A living prayer my God to thee

Another one from Pink Floyd...Time....as I get older, it has more meaning to me.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
