LOL.....how bout we just throw the entire album of "1984" from Van Halen out there. What a classic..."I'm Hot for Teacher."

Springsteen dominated that year too with, "Born in the USA."

Oh and Madonna's "Like a Virgin." The very first Album I ever bought.

Some of my favorite releases of 1984:
Van Halen, 1984
Metallica, Ride the Lightning
U2, The Unforgettable Fire
Iron Maiden, Powerslave

Those groups are still around, with some lineup changes (there was a new VH album with DLR in 2012, but for all I know they may have broken up again). I saw Iron Maiden in Atlanta in 2012; probably the best concert I've been to. I don't know of any musicians active today that I would predict to be well known 30 years from now.

I was seven. I still know most of these songs. Makes me feel old when I think that the older music is actually better than what comes out now....

I was in middle school... 7th and 8th grade. Currently, I'm student teaching in a 6th grade classroom. A couple of Fridays ago was '80s day, and since my supervising teacher wasn't born until 1983, I took the lead in telling students about the 1980s. I was amazed at the number of students who knew songs from the '80s. One kid specifically asked if we could play Europe's Final Countdown, and then pretty much the entire class hummed along to the music.

Oh yeah... and it was all I could do to avoid showing them Hot For Teacher.
