Crimson Tide held to three hits and shutout for second straight day

LAFAYETTE, La. – The No. 21 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide was shutout for the second straight day, falling to the No. 10 ranked Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns, 6-0, as Carson Baranik and Matt Plitt combined to limit the Crimson Tide to three hits.
The series finale between No. 21 Alabama (4-5) and No. 10 UL-Lafayette (10-1) is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT on Sunday from Tigue Moore Field. Alabama is scheduled to start RHP Ray Castillo (0-0, 3.38) and the Cajuns will start RHP Gerg Milhorn (2-0, 0.73) in game three of the series.
Ragin Cajuns’ starting pitcher Baranik (2-0) blanked the Tide for 7.1 innings, giving up three hits with four strikeouts and two walks. After Baranik gave up a one-out walk in the eighth inning, Plitt walked the first batter he faced before retiring the last five hitters he faced to kept the Tide off the scoreboard for the second straight day.
The three Alabama hits were all singles and came from Hunter Webb, Georgie Salem and Chance Vincent.
The Cajuns collected 10 hits off four Alabama pitchers and got the day underway by scoring three runs on two hits off Tide starter and losing pitcher Justin Kamplain (1-1), who lasted four-plus innings with four walks and hit one batter.
Geoffrey Bramblett threw two innings out of the bullpen and gave up his first run of the season while walking one, hitting two and striking out three. Mitch Greer threw the seventh inning, giving up two runs on four hits with a strikeout and Tucker Hawley threw a scoreless eighth inning.
The Cajuns took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single to center field by Blake Trahan, scoring Caleb Adams, who walked to lead off the inning. ULL extended its lead to 3-0 in the second inning when they got a run on an RBI fielder’s choice from Adams and a sacrifice fly by Seth Harrison.
With the bases loaded in the ULL sixth inning, Harrison drove in another run with a sacrifice fly to left field.
UL-Lafayette extended its lead to 6-0, scoring two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Lead-off hitter Michael Strentz singled to third and ended up on third following two Alabama throwing errors. Strentz scored when Ryan Leonards had a sacrifice fly to left field then two batters later Jace Conrad homered to right field to cap the scoring.
For the Cajuns, Trahan was 3-for-4 with an RBI, first baseman Greg Davis was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored, Conrad was 1-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored and Adams was 1-for-2 with two walks.
