Shooter killed himself per news reports.....

There's only so much you can do to prevent this stuff from happening.

That said - our criminal justice system is terribly slow, IMHO.

The shooter was a soldier and I believe the argument was with another soldier. The shooter apparently just recently bought the gun (45?) and brought it onto the base illegally because he didn't register it there.

Unfortunately, Fort Hood is set up for this kind of thing. The base is sprawling and crowded. I was there from 2000-2003, in the 4th ID. Along with them you've also got 1st CAV and several support brigades, all of which deploy regularly. There's so much going on there. Add to that the surrounding area (Killeen) which is at best described as a sleazy armpit with failing schools and gang problems.
