TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
Alabama utility player Cary Baxter (Birmingham, Ala.) has been named to the 2014 Southeastern Conference Baseball Community Service team, which was announced by the conference office today.

Part of the baseball team that won the Alabama Athletic Department Community Service Award for the third time in four years, Baxter played a large role in the baseball outreach program, both at home and in foreign lands.

In addition to the local contributions with the Sprayberry Education Center, the Kentuck Youth Baseball League and the Tuscaloosa Miracle League, Baxter has traveled the world to volunteer is time.

He volunteered with Costa Rica Mission Projects, working at two children camps during the summer of 2009. While in Costa Rica, he taught English and crafts to students at local schools, and assisted in various construction projects.

In 2010, he worked with 410 Bridge, spending two weeks in Kenya, Africa helping construct a bridge for a small village. In the summer of 2011, he volunteered with Sozo Children International, spending a month traveling to different countries helping at orphanages to take care of children, while assisting with teaching and construction at Rays of Hope School.

In addition to his work out of the classroom, Baxter earned his undergraduate degree in Human Performance Exercise science and plans to attend medical school in the fall. He's a reoccurring member of the UA Dean's List and has been on the SEC Honor Roll three times. He is also an active member of the NCAA Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

The SEC supports a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts.
