I'm really not sure what to say here. If he wants to get in on the competitive advantage that a major conference has, they need to apply to the Big12-2+1-2+1. Don't blame the big conferences for being better off.

The University of Alabama built their "Brand" over 124 years of playing what for the most part is an elite brand of football. The johnny come latelys of the world want everything now. It just doesn't work that way Boise. Pay your dues first, then see what happens.

What? BSu whining? Unpossible!

“I have no doubt why the power conferences are working to separate themselves from some Division I universities who still see the value of equity and fairness in athletic funding,” Kustra wrote.
Ahh yes, it's gotta all be fair - those who excel on the ball field, creating larger fan bases via their success and therefore more money, should be limited so it's 'fair' to crappy little programs like BSu.

Can he not see that this is about helping players, and that if the conferences don't take action on their own that this is going to be decided in a court room?

The reality of the situation is obvious.

Boise St. is the beneficiary of football welfare. If not for the lowering of standards, they wouldn't even be in the FBS to begin with. However, ever since they've arrived they have been gaming the system.

This is the problem with handouts and catering to those who do not have the merit to warrant inclusion otherwise. They become entitled, they forget they're only there because they got special considerations and held everyone else back in the first place.

That and plenty of billion/millionaire alumni donors.

There will always be the haves and the have nots in every walk of life. Inequality does exist and there will always be some; so people like Kustra will have to accept that and move on.

Boise President:

It seems they are never satisfied with their bloated athletic budgets,
especially when threatened in recent years by upstart, so-called mid-major
programs that steal recruits, oftentimes beat the big boys, “mess with” the
national rankings and sometimes take postseason bowl games and revenue
away from the anointed few.

Let me translate this for the comprehension impaired:

We whooped Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl!!!

Boise President:
Lately, those pesky mid-major programs such as Boise State and many others have showed up
the big boys for what they are — wasteful models of athletic spending that
cannot be justified.

It wasn't Alabama who demanded a million dollars just to actually play Boise now was it?

Nope.

Nebraska called. Nebraska tried.

In the past year, NU tried to put together a series with BSU; two-for-one, home-and-home, one-way trip to Lincoln. Whatever. It ended up fizzling out. Why?

Because, according to NU Assistant Athletic Director Jeff Jamrog, Boise wanted a minimum $1 million to play in Lincoln.

Boise President (His Nose Growing Longer By the SECond):

The year that Boise State beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl our entire
football budget was less than the salary alone of the Oklahoma football
coach. Today, as a USA Today database shows, the Boise State budget for
the entire athletic program is $37 million and I’m sure there are some who
think that excessive. But contrast that budget to the University of Alabama
at $124 million, the University of Illinois at $77 million, the University of
Nebraska at $83 million or the University of Missouri at $64 million.

What accounts for the difference, you ask? The absurd specialization in
staffing and coaching accounts for some of this, with recruiting coaches’
assignments reaching as far down as the sophomore year in high school.
How embarrassing to spend all that money and then have someone with half
the budget or less beat you on Saturday afternoon or, more problematical,
beat you in the academic progress department!

Here's another thing that might account for the difference:

STADIUM SIZE:
Bryant-Denny Stadium: 101,821
Lincoln Memorial Stadium: 87,091
Memorial Stadium (Champaign): 60,670 (but was recently 10,000 higher)
Bronco Stadium: 36,387

Btw - only ONE of those stadiums has a corporate sponsor (Albertsons).......Boise.

Tell me what has happened to TCU and Utah since they joined the PAC 12 and Big 12, respectively?

Oh they were right up there with Boise State on the mid-major circuit. Routinely going undefeated and getting cinderella invites to BCS bowls and taking down the big shots in those bowl games.

Since joining the Big Leagues? Not so much. They've barely sniffed winning seasons. I'm sorry but Boise State is not on the same level as Alabama - not even close. Could they upset an Alabama in a one game hyped up scenario? Sure. Utah did. But they cannot hang on a consistent level in any way, shape, or form. Should they someday get in to the Pac 12 or Big 12, they will plummet to an also ran so fast they'll wish they had just kept their mouths shut.

The first thing you should learn from a very early age is that life is unfair, get over it, and work hard to overcome any perceived disadvantages you may have started with. Boise State and similar schools need to understand this.
