Crimson Tide selected as a two seed in Tallahassee Regional

May 26, 2014

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
The University of Alabama baseball team has earned the No. 2 seed at the 2014 NCAA Tallahassee Regional, the NCAA Division Baseball Committee revealed live on ESPNU on Monday. The Crimson Tide will open the tournament against Kennesaw State, on Friday, May 30 at 11 a.m. CT, from Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium.

"It's always exciting to see your name pop up on the screen and realize that you're one of 64 teams that still have the opportunity to play. We have a lot of familiarity with Florida State, having been there the three of the last four years. After a poor showing last year, this is a great opportunity to go back there and redeem some of the mistakes we made last year. We're excited about the opportunity to play and our guys are looking forward to the regional coming up."

With this year's NCAA Tournament at-large selection, the Crimson Tide will be making his 24th regional appearance and fourth in five years under head coach Mitch Gaspard. Joining Alabama (34-22) in the four-team field will be No. 1 seed Florida State (43-15), No. 3 seed Kennesaw State (37-21), and No. 4 seed Georgia Southern (39-21). The Seminoles are the No. 5 national seed in this year's tournament.

The double-elimination regional begins Friday, May 30 at 11 a.m. (CST), when Alabama plays Kennesaw State at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium. Florida State plays Georgia Southern on Friday at 5 p.m. (CST). Every game of the Tallahassee Regional will be televised on an ESPN platform (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPN3). Every game of the regional will also be broadcast by the Crimson Tide Sports Network with Chris Stewart and Lee Tracey calling the action.
