SEC Headlines 9/26/14-mrsec

SEC Football 1. Athlon Sports says there are five first-year starting quarterbacks who could win the national title this year… and four of them are from the SEC.
2. The folks at Athlon have also ranked the SEC’s best running backs.
3. Numbers suggest Auburn’s offensive line will be just as strong in 2014.
4. Gotta love it — Georgia and Notre Dame agree to a home-and-home series in 2017 and 2019.
5. The last time the Dawgs tangled with the Irish, the result was a national title for Herschel Walker, Buck Belue, Vince Dooley and crew.
6. Fun lovin’ Les Miles knows how to celebrate at putt-putt.
7. LSU has some unusual quarterback options if needed this fall.
8. Mississippi State tight end Artimas Samuel has left the Bulldog team.
9. Will the Bulldogs be able to get to the quarterback this year?
10. D’oh! Ole Miss cornerback Senquez Golson was arrested over the weekend for disorderly conduct. (And apparently shirtlessness.)
11. Meet the most important Rebels, number 55 through 46 (which really doesn’t make them sound all that important, does it?).
12. Have we really seen enough of Missouri QB Maty Mauk to name him the SEC’s 19th best player?
13. Meet Kaiwon Lewis, the eighth most important defender on South Carolina’s football team. (We are the only site in the country not currently counting down a list of “the _______ most important players for ________.” So next week we’re going to start our own new countdown: “The 25 most important countdowns on the internet.”)

Former Alabama and NFL fullback Kevin Turner served as a panelist at a legislative briefing on the long-term consequences of sports-related brain injuries and concussions for the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging and the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force. Turner said only a few words on Wednesday in Washington - not because he didn't have plenty he wanted to say, but because the disease that's taking his life bit by bit makes it hard for him to be understood.

Despite debilitating disease, former Alabama fullback takes brain-injury message to Washington-al.com
