Re: OLB Adonis Thomas Commits to Florida

It seems like our staff is really high on him. Will he be a Jack or Sam? He may be our RAshaan Evans this class. Hope he has a change of heart. We are still pretty thin on LB. Losing Trey Depriest, Xavier Dickson, maybe Denzel Duvall after this year.
As of right now he's essentially an edge rush specialist, but obviously we would try to do more with him than just that. Based on the thin frame, though, I can't imagine the staff bulking him up too much. I don't think this is a kid who will ever play at 245 pounds, he'll likely always be on the leaner side.

As many expected, Adonis reopened his recruitment today. He says he'll still consider Florida along with Alabama and LSU.

That's the politically correct way to "flip".

With the limited spots left open in this class, do you think that he is an automatic take at this point for Alabama?

No one else has emerged as a clear replacement for Thomas. Darrell Williams from Hoover could possibly replace him, but Thomas appears to be the better player.

I think Thomas has the spot if he wants it....

Re: OLB Adonis Thomas Commits to Florida

To follow up on what I wrote last month, I don't think this latest news comes as any real surprise. The Gators are tanking and Muschamp will be fired in six weeks, so therefore Thomas has no real reason to be committed to Florida at this point. Might as well play the field or commit elsewhere as a means of hedging your bets in the event that things may not shape up in Gainesville as you would hope, and I think that is basically what is happening here.

Still say that Florida is his preferred destination, though. Obviously Muschamp is going to wash out, but Florida is still probably the odds-on favorite if their next head coach is to Thomas' liking. If it's not, I figure he ends up somewhere else in the SEC.

FWIW, I do think Thomas is a take for Alabama, and do believe he has a firm offer at the moment. I just think we'll have to see how things shake out in Gainesville in mid-to-late December before we know where we stand on this one.

I hope so. I am sure the gators new coach whoever that is will put the full court press on though.
Once Adonis showed/proved he could play inside as well as outside, Bama really put forth the full court press on him. Hard to tell Kirby and coach no, when they really push 100% for you.....some find a way, but Bama really makes it hard to say no.

Now that the regular season has ended, keep your eye open for a lot of staff visits in the coming days and weeks. Going to have a flurry of activity coming ahead shortly; frenzied pace as usual.

We should all note that the dead period begins December 15th (and continues through January 15th). Going to be a lot of recruiting activity by coaches everywhere in the next week as staffs try to catch up on recruiting.
