The entire country of Brazil took the day off today to watch their match with Germany, and at halftime, Germany's up by 5. I'm guessing the country will shut down for the hangover tomorrow...

Brazil's "Kick seven" cross to bear, and not just for the next year or the next four years but the next 104 years if they're lucky.

I would not want to be the HC or the goalie right now.

*tears*

I have to admit, I've not seen a beat down like this in a soccer game, ever.
I have but not at this level.

In the 1977-78 UEFA Cup (a European competition), AZ 67 Alkmaar (which had a lot of guys who played on the Dutch national team that lost the World Cup to Argentina about six months later) beat Red Boys, 16-1 in a two-match set (5-0 and 11-1). And I once saw Ipswich Town beat Manchester United 6-0 on ESPN in 1980.

Wanna hear insane? In that 6-0 loss, the Man United goalie saved THREE PENALTY KICKS in the 90 minute span. He couldn't save anything else but he saved three penalties.

I don't think Cesar (the goalkeeper) is going to catch too much flak for this; there wasn't anything he could've done on most of these goals and he's the only reason Germany didn't reach double-digits.

The head coach, though... He might want to hire some foreign, personal security forces and/or leave the country quickly. ;)

This was one epic beat-down, the likes of which the World Cup has literally never seen.

How do you remember this stuff?

Probably the only time Ipswich beat Man U. (Not to be confused "Notlob". Obtuse Monty Python reference.)
