I know the ACC and SEC have aligned themselves pretty closely in the last year. The Big-12, Pac-12, and Big Ten may be more tepid allies compared to the ACC but I still expect to hear something from them.

I'd say the SEC - Big12 Sugar Bowl partnership signals a pretty close tie outside of the normal avenues...

That is true. I forget that. The SEC has done a good job of "securing their border" of late. I guess that could signal some sort of loose super-regional alliance to a degree. The Pac-12 and Big Ten have been cronies/cohorts for awhile...the SEC, ACC, and Big-12 aligning themselves would probably help even the odds.
