Question: How is a "returning starter" determined/defined?

We've all seen this term applied for years but what criteria dictates how a player is defined as a returning starter?

Does he have to start a minimum number of games the previous season?

If so, what is the number (or percentage) of games he has to start the previous season?

Depends on who you talk to. There is no set definition.

FWIW, just did a Google search and found Phil Steele's list of returning starters for 2014.

He lists Alabama as having 12 returning starters....7 on offense....5 on defense.

Does that match up with what you have?
