I think UAB needs football I just don't think they need to do it on the division 1 level. As one of those millions of former high school players who loved football but were not gifted with the ability to do it at the highest level I think lower level college football opportunities would give so many guys a chance to add an amazing experience to their college life. I hope the end result of all this big conference autonomy is that a robust and vibrant division II variant will grow out of it.

Couldn't agree more. I am all for UAB football if for nothing other than it gives some kids a chance to go to college and graduate when they otherwise wouldn't. I don't think they need to be in Division I at all...and it is a disservice to the coaches and kids that play there to make them compete against quality programs. Sure, there are payouts when you play big teams, but if you were in a lower division and were competitive, you would more than likely draw larger home crowds which would perhaps even out the revenue across the season. Maybe that's just a utopian view of it though.

It's closed down; they just don't know it yet.
I don't know - Brown did a good job getting it off the ground but this last joker stunk it up big time. I am no UAB football fan but I like their new coach. I wouldn't pronounce them dead just yet...may surprise some folks this year in fact.

You think that they will actually win a game this year?

The Kansas helmet reminds me of the cartoon characters heckle and jeckle.
Well, since one of them is the mascot..................

I know, most here probably aren't old enough to remember, and those that are have forgotten.

BTW, where did I put my wallet and car keys?

(Not in blue, because it is not sarcasm.) (Getting old stinks.)

my sister currently attends UAB. she says they practically beg students to go to games. She never will unless she has 2 armed escorts.
But they need an on campus stadium so the games will sell out like the basketball games do.

We are not a basketball school and the school is in a much smaller area than UAB, yet our basketball crowds are bigger than Bartow's capacity.

The son of a friend of mine is a senior at UAB. His freshman year, he pledged a fraternity and would post a lot of pictures every week with him and his frat brothers at football games. I'd see him at a tailgate and there was always a group shot in the stadium. (Which was funny to see with the empty seats in the background).

Anyway, since his first year, I have not seen a single shot of him at a game. So I'm guessing they made the pledges go to games but after that he quit going. I did see one picture he posted of him and his girlfriend at Bryant-Denny one time.

I like to lurk on their message board, the delusions of grandeur and the paranoia I see there makes ITAT look rational.
