Well FSU beat 13-1 Auburn, 11-2 Clemson (who beat a HEALTHY UGA), 10-4 Duke (who gave TAMU all they wanted in the bowl game), and 9-4 Miami. FSU beat 2 very good teams, and 2 good teams.Notre Dame played a Michigan State team coming off an 11-3 division-title winning season and Outback bowl victory over UGA. True, they weren't as good in 2012, but you can't blame that on Notre Dame. They beat an 8-5 Michigan team that lost four close ones against good teams and a blowout to us. They beat the same Stanford team that knocked off Oregon and put us back in control of the title race. They beat 10-3 OU IN NORMAN by 17 points.
With all due respect, I have no idea what you're trying to say schedule-wise. Notre Dame played a significantly tougher schedule than we did in 2012. True, they were not better as the game result showed, but let's not delve into fantasy argument, either.
FSU didn't play anybody; Notre Dame did.
Notre Dame's best wins were over 12 -2 Stanford and 10-3 Oklahoma (that got absolutely destroyed by TAMU and lost to every good team they played - they did not beat anyone with over 9 wins (Texas), the mighty 8-5 Michigan that we beat 41-14, and 7-6 Michigan State (what they did 2011 is irrelevant, they sucked when ND played them.) Ultimately they beat 1 very good team, and 1 good team, 2 mediocre teams, and got absolutely destroyed by the only really good team they played.
Notre Dame's preseason schedule looked to be murderer's row, but that turned out not to be the case. Considering that ND didn't have to play a conference championship game, I don't think it is "delving into a fantasy argument" saying that their schedule was not that tough. Being projected to be tough and being tough is two different things.
As far as their schedule being tougher than ours, we played 12-2 TAMU, 12-2 Georgia, 10-3 LSU, and those mighty 8-5 Wolverines that ND squeaked by 13-7. We beat one 12-0 undefeated team, 2 very good teams, and lost a close game to a very good team.
Can you say with a straight face that you think ND would have beat UGA, LSU, or TAMU in 2012? Because if not, we're talking about a 9-3 team if they had played our schedule.
Saying ND's schedule was "significantly tougher" than ours in 2012 is delving into the fantasy argument, IMO.
