I don't see a problem. They're living in a much nicer neighborhood than would be otherwise possible for them. Complaining that you can't use the workout room free or the use of a doorman seems a bit much. However, I've lived in that city, so color me unsurprised...

Where's the problem?
Do-gooder class warfare. A mayor runs a campaign on lowering income inequality, as if that's any of his business.

Instead of looking at what they have, people whine about someone else having more. Politicians and their willing accomplices in the press play this up.

Oh, and the use of the gym is not "gratis" as the article says, it's factored into the price of the higher cost apartment units.

I guess I just don't understand how anyone can get upset. It's akin to suing a restaurant because you have to eat a burger instead of the chateaubriand.

i don't remember exactly, but I believe there was a study done that people tended to prefer bringing others down to their level instead of raising their own. This is getting played out by "income inequality" idiots. It's the entitlement mentality gone wild and sadly it's only going to get more pervasive and the politicians will cater to that mentality since the government is playing the role of a Robin Hood (one of the worst hero archetypes in any fiction I can think of).

So if you pay more, you get better services.

I'd be happy paying the cheaper rent and open my own door and pay a membership at the Y.

The story of Robin Hood is often mistakenly boiled down to, "He stole from the rich and gave to the poor." But that is not actually the story. He stole from an overtaxing government, and returned it to the people it was taken from.

i agree. That's just not how it's portrayed. I am speaking to the "take from the rich" mentality (that ayn rand writes against). I liked the new movie with Russell Crowe because it did focus on aspects of fighting tyranny/ oppression rather than "the band of outlaws that stick it to the rich".

Yep, that's how we got "No Child Left Behind." It brings higher performing kids down to the lowest common denominator. But I digress.

Just like everything else the looney left wants to accomplish. Easier to drag everyone down to the same level (i.e., the lowest) than to help raise folks up.

She and fellow rent-stabilized tenants aren't allowed to enter it despite a willingness to pay a fee; market-rate renters use it gratis.
They could have, and should have, ended the story at that point. They live there less expensively, than everyone else, and they still are not happy. And never will be.

Isn't socialism wonderful!

Case in point...the "Cadillac Tax"...it's designed to bring employer-sponsored health insurance down to the level of that available on the exchanges.
