Back in the early 80's I was stationed at Galena AK and this was a fairly common occurrence. Every couple of weeks the alerts would go off and they would scramble the F-15's. It was an awesome sight watching them come out of the CAC (Combat Alert Cell) and turn and burn.
As soon as they were off the runway high enough it was almost straight up and gone. Lot of pictures of Badger and Bear crews waving at the fighters. It was a game then it seemed like, now I think they may be trying to prod us a little.

Actually Russia has a contract with Kiev until 2042. They can legally have up to 25 thousand troops and other ships and artillery in Crimea. The president of Ukraine and President Obama know this but instead try to sell this Russian aggression fantasy to the public. The Russians in Eastern Ukraine didnt start the fighting. Ukraine started bombing civilians and finally the people in E. Ukraine got fed up and started fighting back. Much of Kiev's military are mecenaries financed by NATO.
