The Tide begins practice today and will conclude with its final scrimmage Oct. 25

Sept. 23, 2014

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
The Alabama baseball team will begin fall workouts on Tuesday, Sept. 23, and will kick off live play Friday afternoon as the team plays its first intrasquad scrimmage of the new season.

The Tide will begin practice on Tuesday and will have full team practices on Wednesday and Thursday, beginning at 2:30 p.m., before playing an eight-inning intrasquad on Friday afternoon. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for approximately 3:30 p.m. at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The first week of fall practice wraps up with another scrimmage on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m.

Fans are invited to visit the right field pavilion to get an early look at the 2014-15 Crimson Tide baseball team, as all fall practices and scrimmages are open to the public. All weekday practices will begin at 2:30 p.m., and the intrasquad schedule will be announced on a weekly basis. Please return to RollTide.com each week for the upcoming week's schedule throughout the fall. Fall practice will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 25, with the team playing in its final scrimmage of the fall season.

With the renovations that are ongoing at Sewell-Thomas Stadium, fans may enter from behind centerfield and watch practices and scrimmages from the plaza seating area beyond the right field fence.

The Tide returns 26 players from last season's NCAA Regional team, including Freshman All-American Thomas Burrows, Cape Cod League All-Star Mikey White and his battery mate Kyle Overstreet. Bama returns eight position starters: outfielders Georgie Salem and Casey Hughston, third basemen Chance Vincent and Daniel Cucjen, catcher Will Haynie, designated hitter Hunter Webb, and middle infielders White and Overstreet.

The Tide also returns 12 pitchers including starters John Keller and Mike Oczypok and relievers Burrows, Tyler Adams, Geoffrey Bramblett, Ray Castillo, Nick Eicholtz, Colton Freeman, Mitch Greer, Taylor Guilbeau, Jake Hubbard and Jay Shaw.

In addition to the 26 returning players, Alabama adds another good recruiting class to the mix, which includes 10 freshmen and two transfers. Of the 12-man incoming class, right-handed pitcher Will Carter was a 2014 MLB Draft pick of the Texas Rangers.

Mitch Gaspard returns for his sixth season as the head coach of the Alabama baseball program. In five seasons at the Capstone, Gaspard had guided the Tide to a 170-133 record, while leading the Tide to NCAA Regional appearances in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014. He also guided the Tide to a Super Regional finish in 2010.

This should be a really good team. If they do not make it to at least the Super Regionals we need to start thinking about possible changes in my opinion.
