Saban's troopers don't fly with us but other teams' troopers do. I met the nicest one for Georgia Tech. He's been a trooper at Tech for almost 20 years. He was a football team captain there at GT as well. This job must be a pretty sweet gig in that most of the troopers I've read about have been there years and years.

And btw, I haven't changed my fanhood at all. My son is a freshman at Georgia Tech and a football manager. I worked the charter to meet those he works with. My favorite was Coach Ted Roof. He's hilarious and fun to talk to. I did have to admit to him that I didn't like him much back in 2010. ;)

His name is Lt. Jessie Peoples, I have known him for a long time. He is a good dude and a sharp Trooper. Those Trooper escorts do a lot more than just stand around with the coaches.
You're correct..they do alot more! I've done it myself a few times down here in Florida, although not any College Head coaches or anything like that. But State dignataries and such.

Re: Policeman with Saban pic

O.K., you asked for it - Bear's tailor
I know Butch Baldone from years ago, when I built a swimming in his back yard. I remember his German Shepard dog equally well. Once I had just gotten out of my car, was talking to Butch and his family, when the dog came at me with family protection on his mind. I only had time to dive backwards into my convertible with no time to look, but I knew that the car was close behind me. That got a huge laugh out of everyone but me. :)

Re: Policeman with Saban pic

I immediately thought of Billy Varner. For those too young to remember, here's a link to our past : The last ride of Bear and Billy

Thanks for the article. That is very sad.

I will say, people don't love Bryant because he won football games. That was part of it. But they love him because he was a teacher and a role model, and I think his humanity comes through in that. But what do I know, I was never alive to see him.
