I read somewhere that the College Major that makes the most money at Ole Miss is General Studies.....at least for Bo Wallace, Nkemdiche, etc....

The total income looks a bit low. $50k per annum for an average 40 year career hauls in $2M. That would put you in the upper tier on this chart, but it shouldn't. $50k is starting pay for a helicopter mechanic in the GOM, and a helo mech may or may not have an associate's degree.

It wasn't 40 years ago. Is the chart based on historical data or projections?

No, it is called being in the wrong industry.

Doesn't matter: with more and more companies outsourcing engineering (so they don't have to put up with us and our nerdy habits), we won't need any. Which is good, because American kids are not interested in studying it.

Which is why so much crap made in China breaks all the time. (A big part of that is how the Chinese stole the "recipe" to make electrolytic capacitors, and somehow got it wrong. But, I digress. The Chinese have no concept of "quality". Everything is a commodity, and price is the only thing they concentrate on.)

In the late '80's, the University of North Carolina reported that the mean salary for Geography majors was $118,000 while the median salary was $24,000. I forgot the actual numbers, but it was something like that. Of course, Michael Jordan was a Human Geography major.
As a side note, that is one of the best illustrations of the difference between mean and median.

Imo this entire scenario is dependent. That is, no matter the major, the graduate's chances of earning what is even close to what is depicted on the above chart is dependent on his/her geographical location and the demand for the knowledge gained by that degree.
If there is a demand for people with that degree, then the chances are good. The lesser the demand and/or the greater the supply, then those chances may be somewhat to greatly diminished.

That chart exists because it already reflects supply and demand.
