I think that's an excellent point. For me, Gene Stallings was really my introduction to Alabama football, up until that point I'd never played myself, didn't even know the rules, and it was just a thing my dad watched. I immediately became spoiled and decided that Alabama's rightful place was at #1 and anything that happened to prevent that was a problem. Even Gene Stallings couldn't meet my expectations.
I was humbled by the years since, and grew to fondly remember those Stallings years. That isn't to say a coach gets my undying loyalty, I always doubted Shula, with the exception of a few quarters. The difference is, he'd never proven himself, he had gave me nothing to put faith in, I couldn't just say he knew what he was doing and assume things would get better. In this situation, we have ever reason to believe Saban and his highly qualified staff knows what they are doing. So, I believe things will get better, if not this year then in the relatively near future. They've earned my confidence, this isn't at all like the situations we saw between Stallings and Saban.
