ESPN: Cooper a legitimate Heisman Candidate.

Cooper doesn’t have a single first- or second-place vote in the most recent ESPN Experts’ Poll, and that’s surprising. If the Heisman Trophy is meant to recognize “the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity,” then Alabama’s junior receiver certainly applies. He’s never been in trouble with the law, plays through pain, and is one of the most dominant players in college football, regardless of position.
He's not getting enough love. Due mostly to the WR stigma IMO.

He's at least setting himself up to win it to have a chance, Has to have big games against State and Auburn.

If "legitimate" means serious possibility to actually win it -- as opposed to perhaps getting the invite, getting a few votes, etc. -- then ESPN is wrong. It's a QB / RB award, anyone else is on the outside looking in.

He will break his new single game record for yards against State. Only three 1A teams have allowed more Passing Yards Per Game than Mississippi State.

After Cooper was held in check for the Ole Miss and Arkansas game, Alabama managed to get him heavily involved in the next two. That's the key, if he somehow goes off on LSU/Auburn/Miss State like he did against Texas A&M and Tennessee, he might very well have a shot at the Heisman. But, that's a very, very tall order.

They couldn't overlook something like 600 yards and 6 TDs against those three teams, but the odds of that happening are slim to none.

We would have to get to the title and he would have to break some more records. Doable yes, my prediction for him maybe but leaning toward no.

Coop will need to get a chance at kick return or punt return and take one to the house in a big game. Historically, WRs that have won or had a chance to win have had a extra responsibilities that they excel at like returns or defensive back in special packages. I believe that Coop is the best player in college football, but he isn't going to get the hype that a QB or running back will get.

They need to update their information. Integrity is no longer needed thanks to $cam, JFF, & Rapeis.

I thought the Heisman Committee had taken out "integrity" from the characteristics of a Heisman candidate so as to allow players from the Barn and Shoes U to get the award.

I think he is a legit candidate to win if Oregon and MSU lose. But, if Oregon wins out, no chance Cooper wins. If MSU beats us, then no chance he wins.
If both Oregon and MSU lose, he has a chance. But, he's got to put up some sick numbers and also get a few highlight plays.

Cooper is the obvious choice. Name one player that has had a better season. This is too obvious and you can see by the voting results no one gets it.
Cooper's class is what I like about him most besides his great talent.

I found this on that fbs statistics site.......Amari has 1132 yards with 5/6/7 games left....if he averages 120 yards per game.....he'd be within 8 yards of the all time single-season SEC record (if we play only 5 more games) -- if we play 6 or 7 -- he can shatter the all-time single-season SEC Record.

He's 300 yards from being the second all-time receiver in SEC History -- 900 yards away from being the all-time highest in only 3 years -- (it would be a challenge but he could do it)

Even with the great numbers now Cooper will have a really tough time unseating Mariota. With the new playoff system, I wish the Heisman Trust would wait until all games have been played before the voting. Many things could happen to display the importance of a player to his team or expose weakness when playing against different conferences.

I agree. Particularly this year when Bama and Oregon have a legitimate shot at playing each other. I remember Manti Teo in 2012 going from 2nd in the Heisman voting before the game against Bama to 2nd round of the NFL draft after playing them:)

It's Mariota's to win/lose. He would have to play a direct part in Oregon losing to 'Zona for a 2nd time to open the door.

OSU beating Whisky could hold back Gordan if they keep him in check too.

Then Coop has to GO OFF on Mizzou. Like 10+ Rec's 180 yrds 2-3+ TD's and be the clear SECCG MVP....then he has a CHANCE.

The best thing in Coop or Gordon's favor is that votes are electronic now and not mailed ahead of time and the voters now hold off until after the CG's weekend.

My case for Coop....he's done what he's done against 8 of the Top 60 Defenses in the country this year. No offense to Mariota but MSU is the only Defense he has faced in the Top 70.

I'll just put this article in this thread about Oklahoma LB'er Eric Striker as he touts Coop for winning The Heisman..It's cool to see the respect Coop has from other College Players..

Here's The Link..CLICK ME

“Speaking of Alabama and the Sugar Bowl,” Striker said, “I don’t know if this even matters, but I’ll just put my opinion out there anyway. I think Amari Cooper deserves the Heisman. I think there’s no other player in college football who makes it look easier. He has and been so consistent even though he’s been hurt.

“So if I had a vote, I’d vote Amari Cooper for the Heisman…

This quote from the article says it all too

“But that dude there…” he continued of Cooper. “We had a break and I saw the (Auburn) game, and I’ve been kind of watching him all year... and he was hurt, too… He’s been playing like that. He’s really all you need. He’ll get it done. They had no answer for him. They throw the ball to him and what can you do? Nothin.’” :D

So, what you're saying is that Cooper has to have an average game?
