I lived in DC during the Barry Administration. It was fairly typical of a Democrat-run city: crime, corruption, incompetence.
I remember walking past a car burning in the street in NE, no police, no fire department, just a car on fire.

I also recall a woman in the early 1990s with a sign on the wall of her office. It read:

All you need to know about the intelligence of some voters is that MB was elected mayor after being recorded smoking crack with a hooker. He was constantly being investigated for corruption. He went to rehab (billed as "spiritual retreats") several times while in office. The man was a multi-term mayor and councilman. That's DC.
