I was thinking about it after reading Jess's preview for the auburn game. He said Bama needs to make a statement against a decent Auburn team. That got me thinking.
"When was the last time bama beat an Auburn team ranked in the AP?"
I started digging... Obviously Auburn wasnt ranked in 2012, 2011, or 2008... I looked at 2001 and found that Auburn was ranked but Bama wasnt.
Then I wondered, "When the last time Bama won when both teams were ranked?"
So I kept digging... What I found was that Bama hasnt beaten a ranked auburn (ap poll) since 2001, and hasnt won an iron bowl in which both teams were ranked in the ap poll since 1979. My 53 year old dad was in high school.
The caveat is that in 1994 both were ranked in the coaches poll and auburn couldnt be ranked in the AP.
So at least 20 years has gone by.... if you go by the AP its been 35 years. Someone please tell me I missed something.
EDIT: Alabama's record since 1980 when both teams were ranked in the AP is 0-10. 1-10 if you include 94.
