Calloway saw the field, but never really found his niche. Come on though, we both know his main problems were off-field. Marvin Shinn got buried on the depth chart, it doesn't make him a failure though. Sure, he's not absolutely tearing things up, but based on his receiving yards this year, he'd be sixth on the Alabama roster. Not great, but I'm not sure he could be considered a complete bust. Woodson ironically is probably taking some catches away from Shinn. He'd be third on Alabama in receiving and second in TDs. So, none of those guys did a whole lot, but they all proved capable of playing at the D1 level.you have to question why we completely whiffed on Shinni, Calloway and Woodson, Jr.
I think the real lesson here is that just talent only takes you so far. People keep imagining that Alabama has a bigger gap than they actually exists. Alabama gets players that are, hypothetically a little bit better than other SEC schools. However, they don't have 40 or 50 scholarships to just sign all the top guys in the state, they have to choose and other programs get the guys they don't have room for. So, Alabama might get a 4 star guy, another team gets a 3 star guy, and when it's all said and done, the 3 star guy might be better. That doesn't mean Alabama did anything wrong though, it just means players develop differently.
