Nussmeier has been following McElwain. Time for McElwain to follow Nussmeir to Michigan. As HC, not OC. Could keep Nussmeier as OC.

McElwain was OC at Fresno in 2007 and was replaced by Nussmeier in 2008 when McElwain came to Bama. Again in 2012, McElwain was replaced at Bama by Nussmeier when McElwain went to Colorado State.

What.... Why ... would... I don't get this? Nuss is a OC at MIch and McElwain is a HC. Why would he replace Nuss as OC there? that theory doesn't work... Now, if you were saying Jim should take a job at Mich and hire retain Nuss as OC, then yeah.. but still doesn't make sense in following people...

Comparing Power 5 jobs that are open or are assumed to be open soon, I'd rank them like this for McElwain:

1. Nebraska - Moves him to a Power 5 conference but at a school that is incredibly patient. There is talent there and McElwain would have the time needed to fully implement his version of the Process.
2. Florida - Lots of talent there and lots of talent in the state. If he can show even a glimpse of a competent offense in year 1 he would be loved. Downside: win now attitude seems to have given them a relatively short hook for guys who aren't SEC championship winners on a regular basis.
3. Michigan - Great tradition, but is the B1G version of Tennessee. Bad hires have put them deeper in a whole than they should be. If they gave McElwain time, he could turn things around. Not sure if he'd get that time though.
...
63. Kansas - Colorado State is a better gig.

I don't see McElwain going to Michigan. They appear to still be in the mode of requiring a connection to the school (the so-called "Michigan Man", whatever that means). Jack Arute said Sunday on the radio that Michigan should get a wax figure of Bo and have it animated to be the coach and they'll be happy.

Before we laugh too loudly, look back on Alabama not too long ago, when we seemed to require a link to Coach Bryant in the unofficial job description.
