Re: Why oh why is Amarinot the front runner for the Heisman?
Mariota is an amazing QB and it's all but a forgone conclusion that any year in which there's a standout QB that the award will go to them. It's shallow, certainly, but it's also due to the focus - warranted or not - that gets put on that position. All you have to do is take a look at the record since 1999 in which only TWO non-QB's have won the award. That's two in 15 years. There's a whole lot of precedent and bias you have to overcome to have it go any other way.
All that said, it's hard to say that Mariota didn't deserve it. Amari was amazing and has broken all sorts of records. He'll go down as one of (if not THE) best receiver we've had. He's one of the best to play CFB. However, Mariota's body of work is also pretty darned amazing even with softer competition. Beyond that, he seems like a decent guy, which is a nice change from some of the other QB's we've seen get the award recently.
