Have we not already beaten this jack leg, TWICE as a HEAD COACH? 38-10 and 42-21 were the scores, IIRC. I hope he has a buyout on his contract, so when they fire gus and clean the house of him and anyone associated with them, he will continue to drain their resources.
We also beat his defense 38-21 in the Rose Bowl in the BCSNCG. For one reason or another, we've actually had great success against Muschamp's defenses. I had a barner tell me this week that it was probably because Muschamp's offenses were so bad and that Colt got hurt (He actually said that exact phrase! -lol) in the BCSNCG and that his defenses wore down. I decided to look back, that hasn't been the case AT ALL. We scored 24 points against his defense before halftime in 2009, 24 before halftime in 2011, and 21 and over 400 yards against his defense this year. Had it not been for us fumbling the ball 63 times in that game, it would have much uglier than that.
His defenses were ranked 3rd in 2009, 8th in 2011, and 9th this year, and we averaged 39.3 PPG against him. That's well above our average PPG in all 3 of those years. If that trend continues, I'll love this hire! -lol
This may be wishful thinking on my part, but I have to wonder if it has something to do with Saban knowing the weaknesses of Muschamp's defenses. Muschamp still runs the basic 4-3 hybrid scheme that Saban used to run at LSU. It is a scheme that we have had tremendous success running the ball against, and that is a major reason Saban switched to the 3-4 over/under as our base defense. We've rushed for an average of 218 YPG against his defenses, and rushed for over 200 yards in all three games. The thing is that his rush defenses are usually very good (actually ranked #1 against the run in 2009), but the weakness is running straight at them. When we've done that, he's brought more defenders down to help with the run, and we've had great success with play action passes.
Again, if this a trends that continues, we'll all be very happy.
