Ole Ball Coach "Thrilled" To Be In Shreveport For Duck Commander Independence Bowl

http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/college/acc/university-of-miami/article4902150.html

Steve Spurrier and his Gamecocks pulled into Sam’s Town Hotel & Casino by bus late Tuesday afternoon, the mere anticipation of his arrival drawing a crowd of journalists, gawkers and college football fans wanting a glimpse.

At 69, he will lead the Gamecocks against the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday in the Duck Commander Independence Bowl, readily admitting, in so many words, that nobody wants to be 6-6 entering this game.

“Miami used to play for national championships. They’re 6-6. This is where life is. Fans, once you’ve been up there and your team is having sort of an average year, it’s hard to sell tickets.”

South Carolina has reportedly sold more than 1,100 tickets. The Hurricanes aren’t even releasing that information. Bowl officials say that about 37,000 tickets have been sold overall.

Spurrier, however, said he was “thrilled” to be at the Independence Bowl, and insisted there’s “a lot on the line in this game.”

Kickoff set for 2:30 Saturday on ABC. Should be entertaining to watch.

ACC has had the SECs number of late in bowl games. If it were LSU or Auburn or UT, I might pull for Miami, even though I hate that program and their bandwagon fans. I have to pull for the Cocks in this one.

The mark of a good program is traveling decent in a down year. Success may have ruined the South Carolina fanbase forever

Yeah they didn't mind going down to The Outback Bowl but Shreveport is a different animal.

Duck Commander is sponsoring a bowl game?!? Sad.

I heard Phil was going to be on the USC sideline as a guest offensive coordinator.

When you get a little age on you, you are happy to be able to go anywhere. Good luck to all the SEC teams, yes, even Auburn.

One trip to the SEC Championship Game is success?

I will pull for the Gamecocks, but I really don't care.

Although I have absolutely no love for *u, normally I would pull for Wisconsin as I have relatives there that are really good people, but this time I have to pull for the barn. Mainly...because we have had some new visitors to this site that have asserted the SEC is not so good, and I just can't tolerate that. So, I will swallow my disgust for the team from West Ga., and pull for them to beat the Badgers. And furthermore, I hope every SEC team that is playing a team from the B1G stomps a Southeastern mudhole in their B1G butts! I apologize to all of my fellow Bama fans out there for backing the barn. I guess for that game I will be disowned by you all. Just please, show forgiveness in the New Year, and welcome me back to the fold.:biggrin2:

I'm in the minority, but I won't mind Spurrier getting another helping of humble pie.

Even with a victory and a 7-6 season you have to wonder how mouthy he'll get. This is not the Florida version of the Ole Ball Coach. Though, I wouln't mind him taking a few verbal swipes at "The U."

I will gladly sacrifice SEC pride to see the barn get curb stomped. Some of the Wisconsin players were recruited by Arky's coach, so there is an SEC connection there.
