I'm bored, reading through threads about drafts, and I wondered: 'what if Sims would have had 2-3 years to start? Where would he be in this draft?' Please understand, I'm not comparing him to Mariotta or Winston. In fact, that's the last Im mentioning them in this thread. This is about Sims.
I'll be surprised if Sims get drafted, but I can see him going to camp somewhere as a FA. His body of work is just too little. But as I watch him play, he reminds me of s guy that maybe no one ever thinks about: Steve McNair
Steve was one of my favorites. Steve could make throws. Steve could run with the ball...and Steve wasn't easy to tackle. Dude was country-strong. He wasn't speedy-flashy, but he was shifty and just knew how to run. Steve made some really bad decisions at times...gosh, I would get frustrated with him. Then it was as if a switch flipped, and he'd say 'guys, just hang with me here and I'll make it right.' And then he'd go out and make it right. He'd make the throws, he'd tuck it and run when he had to, his supporting cast would follow his lead and make plays....He had, among others, Eddie George at RB, and a very deceiving Derek Mason at WR.
If Blake had more starting experience, I don't know that he'd be a 1st rounder....I don't know that he wouldn't. I know he locks on to his first read A LOT (I would too!), sometimes struggles with progressions (not nearly as much as he did); maybe those things improve with more starts. I know CLK has done wonders with him. I don't know that he's an NFL starter, but then again, the Big 4 are set to retire in the next 2-4 years, and I'm only seeing 2 or 3 (elites left after that).
Just hoping he gets a shot
