SMU sophomore shooting guard Keith Frazier was ruled academically ineligible this semester and will miss the remainder of the season, according to a report from Scout.com.

Frazier has appealed the decision, but a source told Scout.com that it was “unlikely” to be approved.

But SMU might have a bigger problem than just losing Frazier. According to Pat Forde of Yahoo! Sports, the NCAA is investigating the program. Here is what he wrote on Twitter:

“Frazier report part of mushroom cloud situation at SMU. Assistant who recruited him (Ulric Maligi) put on leave. NCAA on case, per source.”

ESPN now reporting SMU has the notice of allegations. Link

SMU has received a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA that includes accusations of academic improprieties within Larry Brown's men's basketball program, multiple sources told ESPN.

Sources told ESPN that SMU has received the Notice of Allegations and is expected to meet with the NCAA's Committee of Infractions later this year.

"The investigation is complete," one source said. SMU now has the opportunity to respond to the Notice of Allegations prior to going before the Committee of Infractions.

Calls to the NCAA were not immediately returned.

One of the allegations involves sophomore Keith Frazier's academics as issues began when he was attempting to become eligible prior to his arrival at SMU, according to a source familiar with the allegations.

Sources told ESPN that assistant coach Ulric Maligi's involvement with Frazier before the player enrolled in SMU has been under investigation. The school announced on Jan. 13 that Maligi has taken a leave of absence for personal reasons.

Update

Southern Methodist University went before the NCAA Committee on Infractions last month for a hearing related to serious allegations against the men's basketball and golf programs, multiple sources told Yahoo Sports.

SMU men's basketball coach Larry Brown is facing a "lack of coach control" charge, sources said. The SMU men's basketball program is also facing an academic misconduct charge related to coursework by former guard Keith Frazier.

I'm shocked Brown is being accused of something shady.

Larry continues his perfect record; Where ever he goes, the NCAA soon follows.

But really, what does it matter for him? He's almost 75 years old. He's going to retire, walk away and the student athletes at SMU for the near future will deal with the sanctions.

Do think St. Peter stops Larry at the Pearly Gates and says "Hey, Larry...I see the NCAA has a "show cause clause" attached to your profile..."

The NCAA is releasing the report on the investigation today. Jeff Goodman of ESPN is reporting this as the punishment:

SMU has been hit with a postseason ban for this season & Larry Brown suspended for 10 percent of this season’s games, source told ESPN.
Here's the article.

Goodman originally said 10 percent, but the punishment is actually 30 percent, which equals 9 or 10 games.

SMU's lawyers will give the NCAA the death penalty this time. They way over stepped their bounds with this very harsh punishment. What do they do to UNC now?
