Georgia coach Mark Richt has agreed to a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the Bulldogs through the 2019 season, it was announced Wednesday.

The extension includes an $800,000 raise to $4 million per year and was approved by the UGA Athletics Association.

He's the 4th winningest active coach, and has 9 10-win seasons in his 14 years. However he has only produced 2 SEC championships, 0 National titles, and has largely underachieved compared to expectations.

That being said, i hope that UGA keeps him forever!

That will keep Finebaum with material for the rest of the off-season.

Hahaha, that's awesome!
so in addition to the off season spin about a top ten finish and a stellar incoming recruiting class that is going to be like the best ever with 26 herschel walkers signing letters of intent, we get to hear non-stop justification of richt's awesomeness, including his win percentage and almost winning some really big games against championship teams

Good for him...

When they find another Herschel, they might win another Championship, even though they do find some good RBs. HW dominated and carried that Georgia team literally on his back.

i may be wrong, but at this point, i don't think richt could get it done with herschel himself.

With the talent available in that state, he should have more SEC and a couple of national championships. He's seems to be a good man but an average coach.

"We will be geared toward the average, rather than the exceptional."

Winning must be an overwhelming responsibility.

Maybe they should have called that album "Thick as a Richt."

The year Georgia won their national title, their opponents had an overall record of 45-75-1.

THAT had more to do with their success than anything else. More even than Walker. And 25 of those 45 wins came courtesy of three teams: South Carolina (who they beat by 3), Florida (who they beat on a 93-yard TD pass with a minute left, Barner luck at its finest), and Notre Dame - and have any of you ever WATCHED that game? Georgia won 17-10 despite not completing a pass until the final two minutes. The Dawgs had 127 yards of TOTAL OFFENSE in that game - which is AMAZING when you consider Walker alone rushed for 150 himself. Their first TD came about because the Irish fumbled a kickoff in a 3-3 game at the one-yard line because of a miscommunication between the two return men. Even then it took them two plays to score from three feet. Their other TD came on a drive where they started at the Irish 22 thanks to a fumble.

The Dawgs punted ELEVEN TIMES - in a game they WON!!

Richt is literally what UGA is - a team just a cut below championship level forever and always. Their national title was more of an aberration than Colorado's in 1990; the Buffs were 11-0 and top-ranked and played for it the year before but blew three shots to lead the Irish 17-0 in the first quarter. Georgia was 6-5 in 1979.

Sounds like the perfect coach for Michigan. Win a bunch of games without ever really winning anything consistently.
