Looks Like Alabama Won't Have the No. 1 Class. Does anyone care?

That's not really interesting - certainly not surprising in the least - considering the people involved with that site.
FYI, Scout once again has proven that they are very amateurish when it comes to ratings. contradiction comes to mind.

Alabama has 10 of the top 100 recruits according to Scout.

USC has 11 of the top 100 according to Scout.

Auburn is now ranked # 3 with 3 top 100 recruits according to Scout.

Yet sandwiched in between those two teams at #2 is auburn

Scout does points x star rating.... Therefore, sign 20 players that are all 4&5 stars and 28 players that are mainly 3&4 star, the class will have more points.... I'd rather have the class with 20 vs 28.

Also 24/7 has us back to 1

It is nice to be #1, no doubt about that. But..it doesn't bother me at all. It means more with how you develop their talent than what their ranking is before they even start practicing.

Look back in recent years and you can see how many "busts" there are.
Good call Mom. Someone on here, maybe Jess, looked at several of our recent recruiting classes and how many actually played regularly and contributed. Seems like that percentage was slightly over 50%, although that varied by class. Maybe ratings should be redone after 4 years.

If for some reason you find this concerning, take comfort in the fact that USC's class of highly touted recruits is mainly comprised of CA talent, while ours... is not. Only thing as overrated as CA's talent is Ohio's per capita talent.

After the last two years, I don't care about class rankings anymore - I just want the coaches to teach these young men to consistently play at the highest level.

We may have lost the #1 ranking due to quantity, but, our class is still the best in country when it comes to "Quality" & I can live with that every year myself..I wouldn't trade our class for any other schools recruiting class in the country..

No tears here! I could care less about someone's subjective recruiting rankings.

I just want to be #1 when the Playoffs are concluded! That's really all that matters and
it's OBJECTIVE based on who won in the Playoffs.

You are either biased or have no idea what you are talking about - or both.

Having a top 5/top 10 class does matter. But its not just enough to have a top ranked recruiting class, its also about how you coach them. Both of these points go to the viability of a school's program. A majority of the teams that have played for/won a national championship (minus Oregon) has had a top 10 ranked recruiting class somewhere in the three years they won or played for a NC.
