The Bisons' seven-run sixth inning was the deciding factor in Saturday's game

March 7, 2015

Box Score

MOBILE, Ala. - Alabama baseball fell, 7-3, to Lipscomb as a seven-run sixth inning by the Bisons proved to be too much for the Crimson Tide to overcome on Saturday evening inside Hank Aaron Stadium. After tonight's contest, UA moves to 8-6 overall.

"It was a disappointing night tonight," said Alabama head coach Mitch Gaspard. "Their starter did a nice job of putting together a good outing. I give credit to Lipscomb for the way they played tonight."

Alabama starter Will Carter (1-1) was cruising through the first five innings, but ran into trouble in the sixth. Lipscomb was able to string together two walks and two singles to narrow the gap to 2-1 and end Carter's night with the bases loaded. Lipscomb then pieced together two walks, a double and a sacrifice fly to complete a seven-run sixth inning.

Alabama got out to an early 2-0 lead through the first two innings, but a seven-run sixth inning by the Bisons put Lipscomb ahead for good. The Alabama offense was highlighted by junior Mikey White, with the shortstop finishing 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. White has now collected an RBI in six consecutive contests and seven of the last eight games overall.

The Crimson Tide started the evening's scoring in the bottom of the first. Chandler Avant led off the game with a single to center and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Georgie Salem. White collected his first double of the game when he plated Avant with a two-bagger down the line in left to set Alabama ahead, 1-0.

In the very next inning, the Crimson Tide would add another tally, with J.C. Wilhite starting the rally. Wilhite began the inning with a leadoff walk, then advanced to second on a sacrifice from Chance Vincent. With two outs, Riley Colburn dropped a single between three fielders on the left side to score Wilhite and put Alabama ahead, 2-0.

Following Lipscomb's scoring in the sixth, Alabama would add one more run on a single by Kyle Overstreet that plated White, who recorded his second double of the evening two batters earlier. The rally would end there, though, as the Tide could not get any closer than the 7-3 final.

Alabama and Lipscomb are scheduled for a 2:05 p.m. first pitch in the series-deciding game tomorrow afternoon at The Hank. The Crimson Tide will look to sophomore Geoffrey Bramblett, while Lipscomb will send out junior Denton Norman.
