News Article: "Palcohol" powdered alcohol wins federal approval

A controversial powdered alcohol product called Palcohol, intended to be mixed into drinks, has gained approval from a federal agency.

Palcohol first made news last spring when it briefly received the greenlight from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, before the bureau backtracked and said the label approvals had been given in error.

On Wednesday, bureau spokesman Tom Hogue told The Associated Press the issues were resolved and that four varieties of Palcohol were approved. But Hogue noted that states can also regulate alcohol sales in their borders.

The French lost Dienbienphu.
There may be a causal relationship between these two facts.

I'm not sure how you "powder" alcohol, though.

I'm not sure how you "powder" alcohol, though.

Basically, the alcohol is encapsulated in another molecule that is a powder.
This powder dissolves in water, releasing the alcohol.

Anyone who can't keep track of a bit of alcohol (I prefer brandy) at the end of the day and still manage his hydration level is an absolute incompetent who doesn't belong on a trail with a backpack on his back...

Agreed. Letting alcohol become a factor in outdoor activities can be self defeating, if not dangerous.
