Well, duh! This is more about connecting Mother Russia with itself than anything else. The only part not yet paved in North America is the AlCan from Fairbanks down to Edmonton. That would be helpful to us, but we need that for our own/Canadian needs already. What Russian entrepreneur would trans-ship goods overland the long way around to reach NYC eventually. Almost anything else would be more feasible, include shipping over the soon to be ice-free pole. Also, that projection seems to be taken from an old Mercator projection and presented as a rhumb line. The fact is that that neat straight line bends way up past the Arctic Circle and then back down. Snow removal and clearance would be a nightmare. At a glance, that highway appears to be, more or less, the route of the present Trans-siberian railroad, which can move freight at a much more economical and weather-resistant ratio than a highway. About the only use I see for it is another Griswold family vacation movie set in Siberia...
