4 minutes ago * As a player, it's a good thing when a position coach tells the rest of the group to watch your footwork during a drill. That was outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi's message to his players while putting Tim Williams through a pass rush drill. Williams' combination of first step and powerful hands stood out among the group.
* Starting to think we might see UA's outside linebackers stand up more in obvious passing situations. In the past, they've typically played with their hands on the ground in the four-down rabbits package. It looks like Lupoi has them doing some things from a standup position this spring.
* Cooper Bateman upped his wide receiver gear game for Wednesday's practice, going with some sweatbands and gloves. While he looked OK out there, the gloves didn't keep him from dropping a pass that hit him right in the gloves.
* With Jonathan Taylor no longer around, Joshua Frazier appeared to be working with the nose tackles. When Taylor was on hand, Frazier lined up with the ends.
* He's still very much a work in progress in the area, but I was encouraged by some of the things I saw from Dominick Jackson during a pass protection drill that centered on technique. Appeared to have a better understanding of pass set and footwork than he did last season.
* While it certainly was a blow to the 2014 offense, Kenyan Drake's season-ending injury may prove to have been a blessing for the 2015 unit. Think about it: if Drake had posted impressive numbers (and accumulated impressive tape) over 14 games, what are the chances he enters the 2015 NFL Draft? If that happened, the situation at running back would look a lot more dire right now.
