Yep, and every appeal is filed by an attorney, who, working for an inmate who is obviously unemployed, gets paid by the state.

I have an attorney friend who has made a small fortune defending knuckleheads for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

If he only does that, he's earned that small fortune. My daughter was public defender for the city for several years. It's hard and thankless work. She got out of it and said that family law, hard as it is, was preferable. She now works as an attorney for the Defense Contract Auditing Agency out of Belvoir...
