How much tolerance should BAMA Forums give to rival posters?

BAMA forums give to rival posters? As we all know, the barner forums, especially ITAT pretty much operate on a zero tolerance basis. I don't go to the vile forums very much, but from what I've been reading, they're getting mighty intolerant too.

I'd say that the TIDE forums are the most lenient I've seen and I'm kinda proud of that because it puts us on a higher plane than the incestuous barners, where NO outsiders are allowed unless they suck up to them. However, there has to be a limit or else the forum will rapidly deterioate to a point where it'll be difficult to tell whose forum it actually is.

BAMAMAG is pretty tolerant and as a result, the viles and barners try to constantly push the envelope. BOL, on the other hand, seems to allow most anything and the barners and viles dang sure take advantage of their lack of control. I'm still waiting to see where they draw the line. You can't allow anyone to come into your house and blatantly exhibit such rudeness and lack of respect as they permit over there. At some point, don't you have to exercise some level of control?

I think TideFans pretty much has struck a good balance. Outsiders can come here and discuss football and enjoy some good natured ribbing, but once they display a pattern of disrepect and seem to be constantly trying to push it to see how far they can go, they get punted. I think that message board give and take would be far more civil if everyone had a similar policy. Don't you?

I'd have to agree...go figure...on the barn's site they'll let you post but basically no matter what you say they boot you and the vile boards they won't even let you have the right to post...I like the BAMA forums because they'll at least give the chance to post, and then boot you if what you post is offensive or against policy. THANK YOU MODS!!!!!!!!!!!

It's only the rivals who register to disrespect us or just talk smack that we don't approve of. We have several rival posters we have grown to appreciate over the years. It's just as lame to go to a rivals board just to suck up to them. It's refreshing to hear another point of view on some subjects but quite often one of our own will jump on them with both feet which is wrong. A good rival poster is welcome anytime at tidefans, we only ask they respect us and obey the board rules (Please read the rules before posting).

Thanks to the mods diligence, these sorts have a life about equal to the time it takes for wooden match to burn out. :)

I think the mods do a real good job on gamedays, too

i'm with you on keeping the forum as open as possible within reason.

a bedrock legal principle behind the first amendment is that censorship of ideas means that the censor is threatened by the speech which he squashes.

a corollary to that is that all ideas (within reason) should be exposed in the public forum to rise or fall on their own merits. this is the "marketplace of ideas" theory.

i think our rival fans, UT in particular, understand that their program is as dirty as a trash dump and they simply don't want to face it. sort of like the european/UN mentality of turning your head to ignore problems so as to convince yourself that they don't really exist.

the openness of this forum is just one more reason why it's the best sports forum of any kind i've ever seen. RTR

The open board on BOL is like the wild west of Bama forums. I can't believe some of the things opponents are allowed to post over there. Sometimes when you log in you think you went to an Auburn or Tennessee board. lol

I do think we try to be reasonable here. If an opponent wants to talk Bama sports or recruiting with respect and in a civil manner there is no problem. It is the ones that are just here to stir the pot or agitate Bama fans that are shown the door.

We all should remember when they do come in peace that we make sure to afford them the same courtesy that we do people that visit our home. We have to watch the Barner and Vile comments. I no I do. I have some aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that are Auburn fans and I have never called them a barner. I have questioned there judgement though. ;)

You will think your entire seventh grade class is posting on tidefans while raiding the parents liquor cabinet. ;)

That won't work...

Bob. There are some rival sites who let the fur fly, so to speak. There are others ban you if you breathe. I found myself banned from the Scout pig board without ever posting. I guess my username alone was enough to ban me.

That is funny you should say that. I am banned from there also and I have no idea why. Maybe one of their Mods posted some Hawgwash on here that we booted him for and it is retribution. ;) More than likely you are right any user name with Crimson or Tide in it is banned. :eek2: I am not banned from any other Scout.com boards that I have visited and none of the Rivals.com boards either. That includes VolQuest and Auburn Sports. Of course I don't post on either one of them either and I don't go there except to see what scandalous remarks are being made about Bama or to check on recruiting info.

Maybe its just me

I don't have any desire to post on a rival board. I've surfed through enough rivals boards to believe there's no value there. Having said that, I have posted on Hornfans.com for non-sports information (the reason being fairly obvious)

Give it time Steve...they just don't know you yet. :D

With all the fRan controversy, I'd bet there were 25+ TAMU fans who were banned due to smack talk that had migrated over here from TexAgs.com. On the same end, I'm sure TexAgs.com banned quite a few during that period also. The interesting point about all of that? One of the moderators from that site has been here since the beginning...and I still don't know if any more than a handful here know who he is.

I wonder if Cubshine is still writing poetry?!?! VBG

Well I didn't say I haven't been banned before from those sites under different user names in the past. I was banned just for defending Bama against some of the things they were posting about our players, coaches, etc. I used to worry about and try to change the opponents opinions of Bama until I realized that was an exercise in futility. Reasoning and facts do not work on some of their boards. If you go to VolQuest, GridScape, AuburnSports or AUTigers and read some of the things they actually believe you will think that you are in an alternate universe. Especially VolQuest or GridScape while the Logan Young trial is going on. :eek2:
