In the bottom of the ninth, the Crimson Tide used solo shots from Vincent and Haynie for the win

AUBURN, AL - With one down and the game tied in the top of the ninth, Alabama baseball used back-to-back solo home runs from Chance Vincent and then Will Haynie to power past Auburn, 4-2, on Friday evening inside Plainsman Park. With the win, the Crimson Tide improves to 26-24 overall and 9-16 in conference action.
"It was a well-played game on both sides," said Alabama head coach Mitch Gaspard. "Both Vincent and Haynie ran into one, and both of their balls were well-hit. This was a good win for us, with not only those two, but the whole team contributing tonight."
The Alabama offense answered the call to break the tie in the top of the ninth. With one down, Vincent stepped in and smashed a home run over the green monster in left to give Alabama the lead. Not stepping off the gas, Haynie took the very next pitch out to deep left-center field to give the Tide some insurance and the 4-2 lead heading into bottom of the ninth.
In the Auburn half of the final frame, two walks placed runners on with one down, but sophomore Thomas Burrows recorded a huge strikeout and then a lineout to center to end the game. Burrows earned his first win of the season allowing no hits and striking out three to go along with his two free passes across 1.2 innings of work.
Not to be overlooked was another strong pitching performance from senior starter Taylor Guilbeau. The left-hander tossed 6.2 innings of work, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out eight Tigers before handing it over to the bullpen in the seventh.
Auburn kicked off the scoring in this evening's contest, putting up one tally in the bottom of the first. Alabama hit the ball hard for six innings, but could not catch a break until the seventh. Kyle Overstreet recorded the Tide's second hit of the night with one down in the seventh to give UA a baserunner.
Cody Henry would follow in the next at-bat with a triple that started in play but rolled towards a bench down the line in left. The Auburn left fielder put his hands up to signal that the ball was out of play, but the umpire would not honor his request and the Tide continued to run. Overstreet scored to even the game up and Henry slid into third for his second triple of the season.
With the infield in, J.C. Wilhite would knock a single through the left side in the very next at-bat to give Alabama the 2-1 lead heading into the stretch at Plainsman Park. Auburn would lead off its half of the seventh with a double, eventually scoring the runner to even things up through seven full.
The two teams would go scoreless through eight, but the Crimson Tide would flex its muscle to take the lead in the ninth with its two solo shots.
Alabama and Auburn will square off for game two tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. CT with the game airing on the SECN+. The Crimson Tide will call on freshman right-hander Jake Walters while the Tigers will send senior righty Rocky McCord to the hill.
