Good God.

Four Defense Department workers have been put in post-exposure treatment, a defense official said, following the revelation the U.S. military inadvertently shipped live anthrax samples in the past several days. CNN learned on Wednesday a Maryland-based lab received the live samples, which prompted an across the board urgent review to see whether any other live anthrax has been shipped.

Officials are concerned because samples left over at the lab in Dugway, Utah, where the samples originated, were tested and determined to contain live agent.

The shipments, thought to be dead, were shipped under less rigorous conditions than the live agent protocol.

Hmmm . . . . Is this the same military that controls weapons grade uranium and plutonium?
Yep. the Chief of Staff of the Air Force (CSAF) was relieved and retired early after the USAF accidentally flew a nuke from North Dakota to Louisiana. There were other reasons for the relief, but this was the spectacular one.

I'd guess that there are some Army folks who need to start filling out resumes.

Considering the layers of bureaucratic approval it takes just to buy toilet paper for the government, it's amazing something like this can happen. Surely making government just a little bit bigger can fix this.

I remember a MASH episode in which Trapper and Hawkeye were trying to get the Army to give an incubator to the 4077th. The supply officer in Seoul aid no, even though there were three of them on the shelf behind him. "If I give you one, then I'll only have two," was his answer.
But if the 4077th wanted a pizza oven, they could use the form for ordering machine guns and strike out "machine gun" and write in "pizza oven."
Sadly close to the truth.
I bet it is easier to mail anthrax across the country than it is to buy toilet paper.
