Foreigner 4 was awesome - #1 on the Billboard top200 for 10 weeks and 7x platinum in the US.

That professor and I would not get along...

I think the Duggars are vile and disgusting humans, knowing this was going on and merely praying and forgiving. I'm sorry, but that is not enough. Josh Duggar should have been prosecuted, not hidden and protected by money, power, influence and/or Jesus.

#sorrynotsorry

I agree! I am shocked at how many people defend him and his family. 14 years old is old enough to know that something like that is wrong. Age is not an excuse.

They completely shelter their kids. They are not allowed to kiss until they get married and can only hold hands after they are engaged. All dates have a chaperone and they are never alone with a boyfriend/girlfriend. No wonder they are messed up in the head sexually.

so Josh confessed at least 3 times and the parents waited 16 months to report it?

According to a police report obtained by In Touch, the oldest son of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting told his father on three separate occasions about how he sexually molested his sisters. The Duggars waited at least 16 months before contacting authorities or getting their son or daughters professional counseling, according to the reports.
In the newly-obtained report, Duggar, now 27, told his father of at least seven acts of sexual molestation against his sisters, starting from when he was 15 years old.]

That is disturbing. I would not have waited.

However, again, it is also disturbing that the information is public. Whoever is in charge of protecting that information should be fired. I am not going to go so far as to say that it is equivalent to the crime, or it is an excuse for the behavior of the parent, but there should be an expectation of minor privacy. The fact that this is public can exacerbate this very thing. If a parent thinks this can and will be found out they may not seek the help of the authorities. Any family famous or not can understand an attempt to deal with it internally first if they expect it to go public when they seek help.

I guess in Alabama this would be sexual abuse, which is a Class C felony. But most of our sexual assault laws--including sexual abuse of a child--require the offender to be 16 or older, so I'm not sure how that would go down.
I think he would have been charged with Sexual Misconduct, which is a Class A Misdemeanor. I don't even think Sexual Abuse 2nd would fit because it requires:
(a) A person commits the crime of sexual abuse in the second degree if:
(1) He subjects another person to sexual contact who is incapable of consent by reason of some factor other than being less than 16 years old; or
(2) He, being 19 years old or older, subjects another person to sexual contact who is less than 16 years old, but more than 12 years old.

I've only dealt with cases where the perpetrator was 16+ except in two situations and one was dismissed because she ended up actually being a victim and the other was a child who we suspected has been severely abused, sexually and physically. We got DHR involved and he is being treated in a program for kids who have suffered extreme abuse then start acting out. He is 8 years old. :( Very sad.

I do hope those here adopting a rigid "by gawd I'm fer law and order" posture feel the same way when in some state that has the "age difference" law on statutory rape prosecutes a 17-year old for sex with a 13-year old girl. Don't spout the old "oh, that's what teenagers do" tripe. It's the law, right? (We ALL find laws we wouldn't prosecute ourselves).

And I also hope those of you screaming the loudest about equality have no problem when when an 18-year old gay guy is prosecuted the same as an 18-year old straight guy would be, too.

Part of me is being facetious here - it's just that everyone is rigid until they aren't. Most of you wouldn't turn in your own 14-year old boy for molesting your younger daughter and you know damn well you wouldn't. So bashing the guy for what you yourself wouldn't do (and let's be honest - he's got a lot more at stake than most of us) is hypocritical in my view. Keep in mind at no time have I defended anything the Duggars did or how they handled it. I just know that Monday morning quarterbacking on this stuff is a whole lot easier when it's not your house. It's like finding out your daughter is gay or has been raped or your son is a murderer. WE ALL know BEFORE what we THINK we would do - but none of us knows until we're confronted with it.

A 17 year old with a 13 year old is not right and I have no problem with a prosecution there. Why does it matter if they are gay or not in your other scenario? A crime is a crime.

Turing in your child for molesting other children is what is needed. He needed to get proper help and not go to one of their religious centers that just made him do hard labor. It was more of just getting him out of the house..rather than getting him the help he needed.

I don't necessarily think jail time was really needed, but he needed counseling by a licensed professional that deals with these kind of things.

What message does this send to victims of similar situations? It is ok because he was 14? You would tell your daughters that?

Crap like this

Remember all the screaming and whining about this? "She's being singled out because the parents blame her for turning their daughter gay."

Simply google Huffington Post and Kaitlyn Hunt and notice how often the same site screaming bloody murder about the Duggar's invokes "homophobic" when this is the situation.

That's all I'm saying. I question whether or not these should EVER be prosecuted, but a lot of folks who mouth "equality" are just as big hypocrites as others. Given our culture now, 18 and 14 is not what it once was. (And I say this as a man whose sister-in-law was knocked up at 14 by an 18-year old guy now doing time for something else; he was not prosecuted because the family opted to not do it).

The orientation of the person doesn't matter to me - the hypocrisy does.

And again - none of the silver tongues preaching this here would do it in the SAME SITUATION and you're deluding yourselves if you think you would. All of us know what we'd do beforehand and all of us protect our families - if that mandates trying to sweep something aside so be it. This is simply reality.

I've never said it was okay. Quit erecting straw men to avoid the fact that the same people here screaming of what they SHOULD have done would not have contacted the cops (even one with a child porn habit).

Just so we're clear - I actually AGREE with you:
a) something besides the labor camp (or whatever) should have been done
b) jail time at that age would be excessive prosecution
c) it could have been handled better.

If I'm reading you correctly, you and I basically agree on these points regarding this with the Duggars.

So Selma no idea why this is being spun as 14 year old with 18 year old. In one instance he was 15 and the victim was 5, five not a freshman to his senior (14 year old with an 18yo) but a Freshman with a Kindergartener

I have kids, if my boy did this at 15 he would be dealt with instantly. You realize that in the 16months that these two deluded idiots did essentially nothing that Little Josh was still touching his sisters, right?
