If he's JUCO, how can he have 4 years to play?

Nice pick up and hope this works out we have given scholarships to kickers in the recent past that have not worked out so well for us. I know most of the time teams still rely on getting kickers to walk on so when you offer a scholarship and it does not work out then it like wasting a scholarship IMO.

He's a 2014 high school graduate. The school he's going to is in its first year of football this year (meaning he was on that team last season, but they didn't play anybody....much like UAB will be this season). So he'll sit out this year, which will leave him 4 to play here.

Good catch. He, though, has not played beyond high school despite being enrolled

Pineiro (6’1″/180 lbs) is currently enrolled at ASA College, a juco in Miami, FL. According to reports, he plans to sits out this season at ASA so that he can graduate in December and enroll in January 2016. For this, he reportedly will have four years of eligibility to play for Alabama.
the RBR link has some video on the kid. He doesn't quite make a **71yard** FG--it bounces off the crossbar.

And before anyone asks, he's kicking off the ground, not off a tee.

Leon and Baldwin went to ASA College in NY. This is ASA College in Miami.

Welcome Eddy. I'm not concerned with how far he kicks as how consistently he can put 40 yds and less between the uprights. Foster and Griffith both were kicking 60 yarders in high school also. Inside of 47, they were not automatic.

Agreed.

It's one thing to kick off the ground with no rush and the ball 100% stationary, the exact way you like it, held by a 100% reliable metal holder, and you get to kick it when you're dang good and ready.

Another thing entirely to deal with the snapper snapping the holder catching, spinning, and setting the ball down, maybe set the perfect way you want it, maybe not. All the while anywhere from 7 to 11 guys are grunting and yelling at the top of their lungs, trying to stuff that ball back down your throat, and 100,000 people are screaming their heads off, some for you to make it and others for you to shank it.

I hope Pineiro makes us all forget Van Tiffin. But predicting PK success is like deriving the Theory of Relativity, compared to predicting QB success (notoriously difficult) being Sally, Dick and Jane.

We'll see what he's made of when the heat is on in a close SEC game on a kick in the last 10 minutes. Not on videos of recruiting highlights.

Welcome Mr. Pineiro! RTR!

I agree with the above posters. Distance is a nice bonus, but consistency in the short and mid-range game is what keeps this guy happy.
