High school coach discusses ineligible Alabama signee DeSherrius Flowers' future plans

Johnson's understanding is that Flowers was ruled ineligible because of a large jump in Flowers' ACT score from the previous time he took the test.

Flowers' final score was a 19 out of 36, Johnson said.

Johnson wasn't sure of Flowers' previous score.

"Not that there's any evidence of any wrongdoing, but it's just irregular, so the NCAA can then declare you ineligible as far as college athletics go," Johnson said. "Again, Alabama didn't see it. They wouldn't have put this much time into him if they thought there was anything there at all. They wouldn't have brought him in in January and let him go through spring training. They thought he had had a great spring and had him in summer classes. None of that would have happened if the university or the coaching staff thought for a second, hey, there's something wrong here and they're going to declare him ineligible.

Seems it would be sensible to just have him take the test again with a witness present. If Mr. Flowers is not guilty of cheating he should hire an attorney. Simply declaring someone ineligible for something that seems "irregular without evidence of wrongdoing." I despise frivolous lawsuits but the NCAA has shown no moral high ground and I have no trust in their decisions.

This seems ridiculous if this is all there is to the story. How did he get admitted to go through the spring with the team and enroll in summer classes before the NCAA made this decision?

His coach claims the NCAA doesn't investigate anything until the summer when freshmen typically arrive.

I honestly have no idea how that process works. Seems like the NCAA would expedite the process for early enrollees to make sure the player was eligible. But then again that probably makes to much sense for the NCAA..

Precisely, Force...

How dare you use logic and common sense when talking about the NCAA...

This whole show reminds me of the kid a couple years ago (a DE or LB) that was in school for about 1 semester before being told he didn't qualify. Can't remember his name but I think he was from the Carolina's maybe.
